Update 11.30 (Greg Valencia)

(fakie nosegrind tail grab)
Our buddy Greg was down for the weekend, and it was a pleasure. Greg is one of the most real, yet wild kids I have ever met. He's down for taking rips, shredding, and ladies--strictly and solely. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. Sitting down with Greg, he was telling me that he's been on a mission lately to get clips, and he's been traveling non-stop. Prior to his San Marcos visit, Greg was posted in Texas for just about a month, and he's aiming towards France in the near future, as well as a couple smaller stops like Santa Barbara.

Living in Santa Monica, Greg gets a whole different vibe of the shred world up there, and I'm not afraid to admit my jealousy towards how close he lives to Venice park. Greg's a super cool dude; a chill dude.

There's no real motivation behind this, here's just a couple pictures of Greg being himself--killen' it.

He's currently finishing up a new part as well for one of his homie's films, which should very well be a treat to see.

It was good seein' you Greg, we'll meet up very soon.

And sometime in the very near future you guys will see a full paged interview with Greg, and a few more pictures for your viewing pleasures, as well as his new part that he's finishing up.

Lurk the YouTube for some of his older shit.

Waylon Interview coming soon.
Alex P. Interview coming soon.
and much, much more. Keep lurking, and keep spreadin the word.

And THANK YOU to anyone who is supporting and posting this shit everywhere, seriously means more than you think.

Adios fam!

Update 11.28

Heavy winds and loud rain have hit San Marcos. The streets remain wet, and the cold air just blasts through my open window leaving me freezing. Even if it dries--which i dont think it will--that wind is ruthless and raw.

Nonetheless, i enjoy the rain and i have work anyways. So therefore, i'm hopefully going to be hitting up Alex Pedroza today to get his photos he's been shooting, and get in a couple questions to have a fresh IV for everyone--or anyone--to enjoy.

Well I'm getting more coffee, talk to you goons later. Adios

Interview: Alex Pedroza (drunk version)

This is a very toned-down type of interview. We had a few beers at the Cano brother's house 2 nights ago, and in the process we got an interview with Alex, and instead of just me asking the questions--Ben and Paulo Cano, and Brandon Barron helped me out with some questions. Cheers to Gerbs.

(Paulo Cano): How often is your last name misspelled? (Pedroza)
ALEX) Just about every time—my friends never get it right either. Everyone spells it with an “S” instead of a “Z”

(Ben Cano): How many squares can you manual?
ALEX) Umm… 25, give or take haha. What’s the world record? That’s what I’m aiming for.

(Paulo Cano): How often do you shave?
ALEX) Um, pretty much every day.

(Paulo Cano): Can you darkslide?
ALEX) I’m working on that one, my homie Tony (Malacara) has them on lock though--he used to win free boards at demos for doing them back in the day when we were little, hyped.

(Brandon Barron): Best freestyle trick?
ALEX) Def. the pogo

(Ben Cano): Oldest memory of skateboarding you have?
ALEX) Um, it had to be when I kickflipped the 4 stair at Rodeo’s right here in the marcos for my first time. I probably called up like 4 of my homies to tell them I did it. I think I had like bleach blonde spiked hair too, just the tips.

BB) Who’s hooking you up right now?
AP) Well basically, I’m “muffin” flow with Tum Yeto, and Utility board shop.

BB) What’re you filming for right now?
AP) Overdose, a Cameron Sanchez film (Trailer on YouTube)

BB) What else you got going on right now?
AP) Looking for a job—no love though, no love.

BB) Shoutouts?
AP) Thanks to Brian and the Swamp Ass crew, Bobby J for buying these Newcastles tonight, and Ben and Paulo for letting us party at their house.

Peace out—Good times.

Interview: Vicente Rosales

My favorite thing about Vicente, is that he’s always “down for the cause.” Any idea I’ve ever had with skateboarding whether it be a company, new crew, a video, or in this case a website—Vicente has always been there, supporting me full forced, before a grip of people. And I appreciate that very much. Vicente has been in the skate world for quite some time now. Besides the unique bag of tricks he seems to possess, Vicente is extremely talented both in filming skateboarding and just in general, and I’m hyped to some-what promote his projects on here in any way I can.

Vicente is a mellow dude, with a ton of passion in what he does. He is an awesome guy to have on the sesh, and his energy will get you hyped. Constantly putting in work for skateboarding, Vicente has worked for the dudes at Syndrome, done a few things for Transworld, and constantly stays busy producing his own skate videos and films. He’s currently in the works of 2 full-length skate flicks, and is always working on a handful of side projects at the same time. Vicente does work hard at what he does, he’s an excellent filmer, and his work is unique and enjoyable to watch. I’m extremely hyped on the outcome of these videos, and more than anything I want to thank Vicente for giving me this interview. A dude who loves skateboarding, and the sub-culture of skateboarding, so much… needs to get the hype he deserves as well. Vicente… Cheers man. Hats off to you.

So without any more further ado, enjoy some Cold Turkey and 2 beers with none other than: Vicente Rosales.

BB) What up Vicente, first of all, how's everything going?
VR) Shit well right now I just got back from some skating. Now I’m just doing some editing & uploading

BB) What've you been up to lately?
VR) Just filming, working, kiggin it with the wife, chillin with the homies, living life.

BB) How's your new vid coming along and what's it called?
VR) Well there’s two videos I’m working on right now; The first one is The Fios 3 Video, Titled "F3" and it will be the third of the series. (Youtube Fios for info) & then there’s The Greedy Monster Video (which is just a homies video) that I’ve been focusing on as well. I also have a Chris Mohney Syndrome Part coming which almost done, and a Civilized Sunday for Transworld coming up in December, and I just got done on Fios 2 1/2 entitled "Rememberance” which will be realeased as a two disc DVD when Fios 3 if finished and comes out.

BB) Who's having parts in the videos?
VR) Well For Fios--Its All The Dudes From Fios2 plus Adam Bumanian, and as of Sunday Wyatt Johnson. As For The GM video, the full part slots are still up in the air, it changes constantly but as of now its for sure Anthony Nukols and Chris Mohney.

BB) Have you guys taken any trips? (small or big)
VR) Umm, well we took a trip to Colorado during the summer which was legit, but usually we're keeping local staying down in SD. New spots are always popping up down there, and the old ones stay fun. We're planning on taking another Colorado trip in May though, and a few Arizona trips are in the works too.

BB) Any parts we should be on the lerk-out for?
VR) Shit well for the FIOS video definitely Adam Bemanian--dudes amazing on the board its amazing watching him just pull the most random and legit tricks sometimes… the dude just loves skateboarding & has the clips to prove it. But as for the GM video I can honestly say both Anthony & Mohney are killing it right now its fun skating with those two, I love watching them push each other to get the better and gnarlier tricks.

BB) How's skating been going for you?
VR) Ha! I haven't been skating much actually, I just now started to film and try to get clips after about a 6 month hiatus, I've just been too busy filming, making tapes, and trying to get the homies names out in the industry to worry about my own skating, I’m just in that stage where I’m slowing gaining my tricks back and getting into the filming habit again.

BB) What's the motivation behind the video, if any?
VR) Uhm I mean really it’s just the homies. Its fun helping my friends--both new and old--film and get their names out there. I just like being able to watch a video and know that I helped, or even fully produced the video I’m watching, and being able to see my friends getting stoked on themselves is what really makes it all worth while.

BB) Any filming influences?
VR) Well really, I can only see myself being influenced by Ty Evans, but even then not so much him. I just kind of do my own thing... I definitely have a different style compared to most filmers, I like to really make sure the footage is going to look good. And I make sure everyone’s gonna be happy with the results. I mean it kinda shows how much time you take to make sure that clip is gonna look good, because I mean it comes back and reflects on you.

BB) What do you think of the Swamp Blog?
VR) im stoked, i really like what youre doing with it so far, keeping it skateboarding and making sure it stays that way, keeping it street like most of the skate rats in the marcos

BB) Any shout outs/anything you'd like to add?
VR) Ummm, I'd just like to say thanks to my family, all the FIOS dudes, all the people I've been able to film. A Huge thanks to Chris Mohney for really being a homie to me. Nuckols, Old School Chris, my wife Karla--who keeps me down to earth. Teresa and Taylor Quinn, as well as the Garrett Cash family. Big Jim and all the homies in Oregon. Allan Ross, Jud Boardman, Kevin Calumpit and my homie Keith Hampton who’s in the hospital--keep your head high! I’m praying for you and your family. And a huge thanks to Brian Blakely and the dudes behind Swamp for interviewing me, I’m stoked for the future and ill be supporting you guys in anyway I can. Also be on the look out for the Civilized Sunday video on the Transworld website and the Chris Mohney syndrome video coming out very soon. And if anyone needs a filmer…. I’m always down to help.

BB) Thanks Vicente, have a good one.

Update 11.24

Yup, so it's Tuesday... we got two days until Turkey day and I'm not gonna lie--I'm hyped.

I don't really have a whole lot for you guys right this second.

For December, I'm currently in the works of:

- Vicente Rosales's Interview promoting his new skate flick he's filming and directing.
- Waylon Hendrick's "spotlight" interview.

and many random updates in between.

I know it's a while away, but we have another spotlight interview with Alex "Gerbs" Pedrosa coming up and he was actually posted here at the Swamp compound (aka a small corner of my room) chillen hard last night, scopin out some of the ideas and shit I have in mind about really getting this thing started.

Alex has already been out shooting photos and his interview will be a pleasure to see...

I advise you to lerk on YouTube and type in his name to check some of his old footy tapes, and constantly keep checking back here for more and more shit.

Anyways, I'll have some sick shit on here later tonight, until then hope every one is chillen hard.

Happy Tuesdays.

Interview: Bobby Johnson

Robert Edward Johnson, the name has quite a professional jingle to it ay? Sounds more or less like an old president or something though if you ask me, but nonetheless, the kid fits the name… ironically enough. When the idea to interview Bobby about his new film, “The Game,” came into my head I got hyped, and wondered why I hadn’t ever done this before. Bob is extremely talented in his filming, screen writing, and directing to say the least. Having experienced the “set life” numerous times already, Bobby’s comfort shines on set, and his actors, crew-members, and even extras are all pleased to do whatever he asks, for he always does it with a smile, and mellow laughter. A busy man he is, Bob is currently getting ready to make the move to New York where he’ll be attending a film program at NYU for a few months, then hopes to enroll there and continue his working. With a few other schools in mind, Bobby is prepared to go wherever he has to, to continue his hope to make it in the film industry, and I’d easily put down money in his favor.

Bobby has wrote, filmed, and directed a few other movies. His YouTube account is, “BobbyJ1234” and you can check out a few older films that he’s made in the past. I want to thank Bob for letting me have this interview (cuz I woulda beat his ass if he didn’t haha), and I just want to say to the un-aware public—this kid will be doing big things in the near future, so be on the lookout. Bob is living proof that hard work does pay off.

Anyways, here it is… The Bobby Johnson Interview

BB) So for starters tell us your age, and where you’re from?
BJ) I’m 20, and I’m from San Marcos

BB) What sparked your interest in film in the first place?
BJ) Skateboarding started my film desire. I bought my first camera at 12 and started making skateboarding videos, and things progressed from there. I made my first video with a story at the age of 13, and it was titled "Sandwich." Although, I filmed other skateboarding and "jackass" type videos after I bought my first camera.

BB) When did you know this was a positive career choice for yourself?
BJ) After I made my second skate video, I realized this could be a possibility. At the premiere I had people tell me how much fun they had and how they liked the movie… so after that I knew a career in film was what I wanted. But as long as I can remember I’ve been telling stories for others to enjoy.

BB) What do you enjoy about filming so much?
BJ) I enjoy being able to make a vision that is in my head come alive for others to enjoy. As most of my cast and crew would tell you, when I get a shot just right I get so excited!

BB) What don't you enjoy about filming?
BJ) What I don't enjoy is sometimes when I have to get bossy or yell--but sometimes it is needed. Also, I don't like having to do all the jobs. I would much rather focus on one job and make sure that part turns out good, but that’s not always the case.

BB) What's your new movie, "The Game" about?
BJ) "The Game" is about a girl who has to struggle with keeping her identity or give up everything she knew for the necessities of life.
I hope to have a trailer to give to you soon.

BB) How has filming for it been going?
BJ) The filming as always has its ups and downs. Overall though I feel it is going very well compared to some of my other films.

BB) Who are some of your influences in film?
BJ) Some of my biggest filming influences for this film in particular are: Stanley Kubrick, The Coen Brothers, and Roman Polanski, especially because this film is similar to some scenes in their films. Another big influence is Chris Nolan though, who also is one my favorite directors

BB) Just to ask, how's skateboarding been going?
BJ) I have been focusing much more on just skating around and having fun rather than filming a part these days. I still enjoy filming every once and a while, but school and work has been getting in the way. I still try to skate as much as possible--I know that will ever change.

BB) Future plans/anything you'd like to add?
BJ) The future plans I have now are to move to New York and succeed there to continue for the remaining two years I have of school. After that, I will go wherever God takes me.

Update 11.23

Just wanted to say thanks to Ben Cano who is constantly working on Swamp Ass art and designs simply because it's his passion. He does a fucking awesome job at what he does, and he lets the art speak for itself. The header was created by Ben, and i have a handful of other pictures he's produced saved on my computer.

Hopefully sometime in the near future I can get Ben on here to do an interview with me, and show off some of his paintings, drawings, and graffiti--which is truly amazing to see.

Anyways, thanks to Benny C and his brain we have a nice logo as the header now.

Update 11.23

So it's Monday. As of right now, I'm waiting for Bobby J. to send me back his responses to his interview, so I'm saying at least by Noon today it will be up, with a few new pictures, and HOPEFULLY a trailer to his new film, but I'm not making any promises with that one.

Also, 2 more sundays from now, I'll have a short and sweet interview with Vicente Rosales about his new Skate Video coming out featuring many of North County's finest shredders, a few pictures and words to follow up on that one though...

Anyways, I'm still tired, I'm on my 4th cup of coffee, and I'm leanin towards another.

Does anyone even read this shit yet? Probably not.

"On the set" w/ Bobby Johnson

with Bobby Johnson and his cast and crew as they filmed for his short film: "The Game"

I've known Bobby for as long as i can remember now, and he's been behind and in front of the camera for just as long. Influenced solely from a skateboarding background, Bobby's progression has truly been eye catching, and his "cinema style" of filming now is truly incredible. An excellent story writer, and an excellent videographer all the same. This is not Bob's first short film--and definately not his last, so beware, it's easy for me to say this kid will be someone.

By Tuesday, I should have Bobby's full interview up on here, and a trailer to his new film.

I walked around set today and took a few pictures of the cast and crew, this is a sum up of what i got.
